Robi–10 Minute School is the country’s biggest online school that has redefined the way of learning and has started taking quality education accessible to everyone. This platform offers comprehensive study solutions “free of cost” for the students of Junior School Certificate (JSC) level, Secondary School Certificate (SSC) level and Higher School Certificate (HSC) level students, university admission seekers as well as undergraduates. It also offers admission guidance and model test options for all the public and private universities in Bangladesh, thus reducing dependence on expensive university admission coaching for the students seeking tertiary level education.
This treasure-trove of quality education contains the content of over 2,000 video tutorials and 20,000 timebound quizzes that must be completed within 10 minutes. The quizzes also reflect on the right and wrong answer helping the students to learn by practicing. The platform also offers a dashboard whereby students can see their progress and compare their overall scores with other peers from across the country. Teachers, parents and even schools can measure the progress of their students from JSC till HSC classes using this dashboard.
Technological innovation, digital inclusion and affordable internet connectivity are continuously reshaping the way of learning and they have resulted in the emergence of online education as a supplement to the conventional learning. Robi-10 Minute School connects students from any part of the country and even the world, saves time and money and provides opportunities for self-learning and development at the students’ own pace - anywhere, anytime.
In June 2016, Robi-10 Minute School started arranging live coaching classes using Facebook’s Live and broadcast them every day on topics that are in the national curriculum. The live classes have changed the way students used to study. There are two live classes every day and they have an average viewership of more than 10,000 per class. Currently, more than 350,000 students have subscribed to the live classes.
This platform now offers interactive video lessons, curriculum-based smart books, soft skill development opportunities and educational blogs.
We believe that Robi-10 Minute School is changing the way education was approached by taking it to the fingertips of students regardless of their location, socio-economic background or proximity to educational institutions. This is a very significant milestone in our journey as a leading promoter of digital lifestyle.
Internet4U is Robi’s standalone digital literacy campaign to ensure ethical and effective use of the internet as well as mobile phone technology in our pursuit to embrace digital lifestyle. People up and down the country are increasingly using the internet as a tool to step into the world of digital lifestyle. While it is welcome news for the ongoing digitalisation, it has been observed that due to lack of awareness on the proper and effective use of the internet, many people, especially the youth, are failing to capitalise on its full potential.
In Internet4U, we engage with the youth in different parts of the country and show them the true potential of mobile phone and the internet that can bring about positive change their lives. During the engagement we discuss how the changes would enable them to change the society, bring innovation, be self-dependent and explore the world unknown to him or her.
We have set up Robi Internet Corners across seven divisional public libraries of Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barisal and some major press clubs.
GORI NIJER BHOBISSHOT
In partnership with UCEP (Under Privileged Children Education Programme) Bangladesh, we have trained and created employment opportunities for 500 underprivileged youth in Chittagong. Trainings were provided on Mobile Servicing, Electronics Repairing and Industrial Sewing Machine Operation, for the RMG sector. All the trainings were conducted by UCEP and they were also responsible for technical assessment, certification and job placement of these youth across relevant industries.
We gave priority to female students, especially in Electronics and ISO trainings, to enable them to learn and earn for their families.
SAFE WATER, HEALTHY LIFE
We have provided safe drinking water facilities across eight major railway stations in Dhaka (Kamlapur and Airport), Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Mymensingh and Netrokona (Mohanganj) for free to railway passengers and visitors. The plants were set up in association with Bangladesh Railway and with technical support from WaterAid – a UK-based non-profit organisation working to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
DISASTER RESPONSE
Disaster is one of our key priorities in terms of corporate responsibility. We are already a signatory to the Humanitarian Connectivity Charter launched by GSMA (GroupeSpeciale Mobile Association), the apex association of global mobile phone operators, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2015. We are the first and only mobile operator in Bangladesh to have committed to the charter.
Over the last decade, 1.8 billion people have been affected by disasters around the world. The challenges posed by these crises are too large for any single entity to address individually and the key solution is to ensure collaboration and partnership both within the industry and with external partners. In this context, the charter offers a common operational framework for all mobile network operators (MNOs) to:
ROBIR ALO
We have provided electricity to more than 4,000 people in the off-grid areas of Kurigram and Naikhonchhari (Bandarban) by installing solar home systems in 950 households.
SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION
We provided assistive devices and physiotherapy equipment to SEID (Society for Education and Inclusion of the Disabled) Trust to help the organisation address the physical challenges faced by the children with special needs. The devices and physiotherapy equipment included hearing aids, standing frames, cock-up splints and treadmills.
On 22 March, we observed the World Water Day 2016 with befitting awareness campaign at the Kamlapur and Airport Railway Stations. We also launched a communication campaign for our employees to raise awareness on the importance of water conservation to mark the occasion.
On 8 May, we observed the World Thalassemia Day and organised a blood donation camp and awareness session on Thalassemia in partnership with Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation for our colleagues.
