Every day we touch lives of millions of people. Starting from our consumers, to distributors to partners to communities where we work. Because as a business we want to help unlock the benefits of the digital revolution and demonstrate how more can be achieved with connectivity. Stand next to the most vulnerable when there is any disaster. In parallel we work to raise standards and deliver broader access to our services.

Our flagship project is all about making children safer online. As we understand that in Bangladesh, mass internet penetration is still a recent phenomenon. Many still have preconceived negative notions around the internet. Grameenphone has been educating and actively advocating safer internet usage among schoolchildren in Bangladesh since 2014.

Starting from 2014 Grameenphone have reached out to more than 140,000 students in different 600 schools across Bangladesh and directly engaged with 35,000 parents, teachers and guardians. In 2017 alone, Grameenphone reached out to more than 52,000 school children in over 250 schools across the country to create awareness and educate children, especially girls, on personal online safety,

Recently Grameenphone and Telenor Group partnered with UNICEF to promote Child Online Safety in Bangladesh and an agreement in this regard was signed on June 10, 2018 between the organizations. Under this agreement, Grameenphone, Telenor Group and UNICEF will launch a specially designed “Child Online Safety” programme. The programme is designed to directly engage and empower 400,000 children aged between 11 and 16 years and sensitize 50,000 parents, guardians and teachers on how to facilitate a safer internet experience. Additionally, the program will closely work to increase general awareness around safe usage of internet.

Grameenphone CEO said, “We have been working on keeping our young minds safe while they use the internet as we want the people of Bangladesh to use and reap its benefit without any apprehension or reservation. The partnership with UNICEF collectively demonstrates how our passion and commitment can make a significant difference in creating safe learning opportunities for the children and significantly enhance their capacity to access the world of information confidently.”

Apart from online safety, the company has also supported the community through disaster response efforts in partnership with Red Crescent. During the severe floods last year Grameenphone had provide relief packs to 55,000 severely affected families across the country. Each relief packwas prepared with provisions to feed a 4-member family for 15 days.
